Journal matcher inputs
When you use the Journal Finder, the manuscript title, abstract, manuscript type, and selected matching preferences are sent over HTTPS to a ScholarRounds serverless function so the service can perform journal matching. ScholarRounds currently sends the title and up to approximately 2,000 characters of the title-and-abstract query to OpenAlex for semantic literature matching. PubMed identifiers returned with related works may also be checked against NCBI services to verify publication metadata and create PubMed links.
The current matcher does not intentionally write manuscript title or abstract text to a ScholarRounds database. The browser may store the most recent manuscript locally so journal detail pages and inquiry tools can reuse the information. Hosting, network, and third-party API providers may retain ordinary operational logs according to their own policies.
Research tools
Some other ScholarRounds tools operate entirely in the browser, while tools that require external literature or data services may transmit the minimum information needed to perform the requested search. Tool-specific notices are shown where relevant.
Forms
If you submit the newsletter, sponsor, contact, or community-data forms on a hosted deployment, the hosting/form provider may process the information you enter. Do not include patient information, confidential peer-review text, or unpublished manuscript content in community-data forms.
Analytics
ScholarRounds uses PostHog for basic product analytics such as page views and page exits. Autocapture and session replay are disabled so ScholarRounds does not intentionally send manuscript text, abstracts, form-field contents, or typed research content to PostHog. An anonymous browser identifier may be stored in local storage to understand repeat use. Browser Do Not Track settings are respected.
Third-party research services
The Journal Finder may use third-party scholarly data services, currently including OpenAlex and NCBI/PubMed, to retrieve literature metadata and related publications. Information sent to those services is subject to their respective privacy and operational policies. ScholarRounds does not send protected health information intentionally and users should not include direct patient identifiers in manuscript text submitted to the matcher.
Advertising
Sponsored resources may link to third-party sites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. ScholarRounds does not permit sponsors to alter journal rankings.
Local storage
The site uses browser local storage for saved journals, the most recent manuscript form, and an anonymous analytics identifier. Users can clear site data through their browser settings.
Research and patient data
Do not enter protected health information (PHI), direct patient identifiers, confidential peer-review material, or other regulated or restricted data into ScholarRounds. The beta is not represented as a HIPAA-compliant clinical data system.
